Finding Your Voice: Light & Surface

An in-depth exploration of surface and texture of form

Service Description

This class offers students a more advanced study of drawing, and all black/white media. This course’s focus is on the development of an advanced understanding of drawing and the depiction of surfaces and texture on form. Students develop an advanced understanding of how contrast, gradation and edge combine to create effects on objects with a wide range of surface characteristics. Students will work primarily from observation in a guided instructional manner. Students have the option to utilize a range of media including charcoal, pencil, ink, and more with a strong focus on skill building, composition, and visual communication. Project complexity builds incrementally as students gain and master skills. Registration: By invitation after completing one full year, or by portfolio approval. * May be repeated based on student skill level and interest. Projects do not repeat, scaffold skills continuously, and become student driven over time.

Cancellation Policy

For year-round classes: Students may make up one missed class every 30 days up to three per year. Make ups must be completed within 30 days of the missed class and reserved at least 24 hours in advance. Monetary refunds will not be issued for missed classes. Week-long summer sessions: May be refunded if canceled more than 7 days prior to the start of the session. Any summer sessions cancelled due to low enrollment will be offered a full refund.
