Service Description

Sequential art and cartooning sessions for students of all ages. Beginners and experienced artists are welcome! Learn the secrets of cartooning directly from professional cartoonists. Students will take their first footsteps on the path to developing exceptional artistic skills starting with some basic drawing skills including faces, figures, hands, and motion. Students progress to character design and learn to encorporate a backstory, turn-arounds, and emotion boards. Students learn the method and secrets to effective story-telling and come to understand how camera angles, scene cropping, and action convey time, mood, character emotion, and plot - then create storyboards to narrate their storylines. The class culminates with the creation of a comic book or zine. Students move through a range of media including pencil, ink, marker, and colored pencil with a strong focus on skill building and media handling. Instruction of media handling including stippling, cross hatching, to indicate texture and shadow, layout, lettering, inking technique, blue-lining, and the development of atmosphere including atmospheric and linear perspective.

Cancellation Policy

For year-round classes: Students may make up one missed class every 30 days up to three per year. Make ups must be completed within 30 days of the missed class and reserved at least 24 hours in advance. Monetary refunds will not be issued for missed classes. Week-long summer sessions: May be refunded if canceled more than 7 days prior to the start of the session. Any summer sessions cancelled due to low enrollment will be offered a full refund.
